A BRIEF HISTORY Ahuroa Volunteer Rural Fire Force was formed in 1996 after a group of farmers was approached by Rodney District Council to form a fire party in the Ahuroa District. In 1997 funds were raised to build a 2 bay Fire Station at 299 West Coast Road, which housed our Fire Appliance and 1st Response Vehicle. Over the ensuing years, fundraising has helped to purchase hand held radios, the 1st Response Van and medical equipment such as a defibrillator. Then the Fire Station was extended to provide a lecture/social room, kitchen and bathroom facilities. All members have to attend courses and pass exams before they can respond to fire callouts. Training is every Tuesday night as well as various training courses throughout the year. Five of the volunteer members are also Qualified Co-Responders who are trained by St John to attend medical emergencies. They attend fortnightly lectures and also work shifts at Warkworth Ambulance Station. So don't be surprised if you call an Ambulance and AVRFF arrives first. Sometimes an Ambulance can be 30 minutes away. |
